Dealing With TMJ Problems

What have you heard about TMJD? Did you know that TMJD (or temporomandibular joint disorder) is a condition that can lead to several painful and uncomfortable issues such as the inability to close or open your mouth entirely, pain when chewing or talking, or frequent headaches? Still, do you know what a TMJ is or what you can do about TMJD?

You see, your TMJ is the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. If it is damaged or not working properly, you may experience pain in your jaw, a clicking or popping sound, ear pain, headaches, and sore, stiff jaw muscles, However, if you have any of these issues, please don’t assume you have a TMJ problem—but please consider visiting our dentist soon.

Fortunately, if you have a problem with your TMJ, there are a few options you can consider. For instance, our dentist may give you conservative self-treatments to start, such as jaw exercises or a slight change to your diet. Similarly, if you grind your teeth at night, you may be given advice or a dental appliance to resolve the problem since teeth grinding can lead to TMJ issues.
Depending on your unique needs, more invasive options may need to be considered.

If you experience any of the symptoms related to TMJ problems, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with our dentist, Dr. Kevin Torbenson, & Drew Neumann. To schedule an appointment with us, please contact Advanced Dental at 507-345-1284. We will also be happy to answer any questions and concerns you have. We’re excited to hear from you.
